Long-distance move from Missouri to Connecticut

This Company is a Scam!

Once they get your ACH deposit you’re done.
They didn’t even show up for our scheduled move. Probably because we were too far away. I guess I should be grateful given the other reviews of additions fees and property being stolen, damaged or just never showing up.

Long-distance move from Atlanta, GA to Pasadena, CA

Honest Review of Trans United Movers.

We used Trans United Movers to move from Atlanta, GA to Pasadena, CA. We were very disappointed with this company and will NEVER be using them again. The list below details the issues we had with Trans United Movers. I have also attached our Bill of Lading and Order for Service (personal information has been redacted) because this company frequently responds to negative reviews by saying the customers have them confused with another mover.
1. Trans United Movers offered us an initial estimate of $1,500 for the entire move. This rate was increased to almost $3,000 after the movers had placed our items on their truck. Don’t fall for the cheap estimate over the phone.
2. The movers asked us when we would like our items delivered to California. We gave them a date in February and did not receive our items until mid-March. We had to pay an additional month of rent for an empty apartment which was not compensated by the moving company.
3. We had a particularly poor experience with the company manager, Jason. He repeatedly gave us inaccurate information about our delivery status and took a threatening tone when we mentioned writing a negative company review. He also offered us money to write a positive review for this website. Please keep this in mind while reading the other positive reviews here.
No movers are perfect but this company ruined the moving experience for us. We will rent a truck and move our items on our own in the future. Lastly, please refer to other moving rating services to see Trans United Movers’ other reviews. They are much closer to my review than the others you will see on this website.

Official company response

So while we do strive to provide the best possible services and for our estimates to be as accurate as possible if the needs of the clients specifically what they are transporting and their packing needs is not accurately communicated then their likely will be discrepancies in the quote and timelines. That is why we do take steps such as having our customer assurance manager follow up with booked clients as their move date approaches to discuss any changes in inventory and packing needs so that any prices differences may be addressed prior to the move date. Unfortunately this client was not receptive to our customer assurance calls and was too busy to discuss their needs thoroughly with our management team and this resulted in changes to the quote on move day which upset the client but we did communicate with them and provided them a substantial discount however their expectations of what they wanted to pay for what they had to ship was unrealistic.

Long-distance move from New Hampshire to Nevada

Thanks for the move to Vegas.

In the beginning I was terrified at the thought of using a moving company. I envisioned a truck of goons coming to my house and throwing my furniture around like junk but I was pleasantly surprised. The movers came on move day and really took the time to wrap up all my furniture immaculately . The delivery came without a hitch and they set up the house as per my wifeys instructions and you know what they say happy wife happy life! Great job and wow Vegas is a blast thanks Trans United I rolled an eleven using you guys. Come by and visit when in town Don the Driver.

Dishonest.

This company is very dishonest and they do not communicate. They will provide you with a quote that is low initially, but when they get to your house/apt the costs will significantly go up by at least 500.00-1000.00. They damaged my goods upon delivery and I am taking them to court because they still have not provided me with a settlement check. This company is a fraud starting from the owner Cliff, GM Robert and others. I advise you all stay away from this company as I am taking them to court immediately.

Mr. Lengar while we apologize if the move failed to meet your expectations we would like to clarify some points. The damaged items you had were particle wood and unlikely to survive a long distance move however we still send you out a settlement letter based on the insurance you have. You choose to decline the offer of $198 which was above the amount due per the 60 cents per LBS insurance you had. Also we did not increase the price of your move. You increased the number of boxes you were shipping on move day substantially therefore we gave you a revised cost prior to us beginning the move. You agreed to the cost at the time and we executed the move as contracted. Please send in the settlement letter signed and we will gladly reimburse you for the damages. Trans United strives to provide the highest level of service and to resolve any issues our clients may have. Thank you.

Long-distance move from New Port Richey, FL to Rockford, IL

Rip off very poor service and.lies.

December 19th, 2017 I was looking for a moving company to move my wife and I From Florida to Illinois. I came across Trans united van lines. I had research see if there were any complaints against this company. The Better Business Bureau Show Trans United van lines was A plus. I called Trans United van lines December 19th, 2017 spoke with Chris in sales. I Explained that my wife and I are moving from Florida to Illinois to see what the cost to move us. Chris asked me when I was going to move, and what kind of furniture anything else that would be going with us to Illinois. I gave Chris list of items over the phone that had to be carried on the truck, and about 75 boxes. Chris Put me on old to figure out what the cost would be to move from FL to ILL. I have told Chris I was a veteran and disable. Chris put me on hold for about 5 to 10 minutes. When Chris came back to the phone told me he has email me a Binding Moving Estimate (see biding estimate with complete brake down what the move will cost me.) I said to Chris that is good what is next. Chris said that I would need to a deposit of $745.00 How would pay for it. I gave Chris my bank card number so Trans United Van Lines can hold that rate. Chris ask when I was plaining to move. I told Chris June 2nd, 2018 (5-month notice.) Chris said that date is open what time would I like to have the movers there. I said the earliest I can get. I was given time 8 am to 10 am on June 2nd. The date was set for June 2nd between 8am and 10am. In the contract. I have emailed Chris a list and the measurements of all the furniture.
About a week, or two I received a call from Jason from Trans united van lines. That he will be taking over from here all the way through the move, and when we receive our belongings. Jason stated he will Check on us to see if I would need help or answer any question I said thank you. I asked Jason for his email, so I can email so I can email a list of the furniture with the measurements plus count on how many boxes with measurement. Jason said that would be grate it will help a lot. I haven’t heard from Jason for a while About a month to month a half. Jason called me to see how things were going. I explained that had made changes in the boxes and I will email the new list. Jason said thank you. I want over the date and time when the drivers are going to be at my place. Jason, said that is correct on the date, and the time. In May I have email Jason a final copy of the box count. I called Jason to see if everything is ok on the list. Jason said yes wanted to go over the list see how many cubic ft I would take up call me back. Jason called me back and stated that I would have to pay additional $1,800.00 on top of the bill. But it could go up, or down that is only when the truck is loaded, and driver will let you know. The final cubic feet. Jason said to me I would have to deposit additional $230.00 on top of the $745.00 make the deposit of $975.00 I gave Jason my checking account information to charge to my bank account card I asked Jason how the payments work. Jason said I can pay by check, money order, cashier check, or cash. At the time of deliver cash. A few hours later I had called back to spoke with because I am not going to pay $6.000.00 in cash. After I got off the phone I have called Jason and Derrick no answer voice mail was full not able to take any message. I lend up texting Jason, and Derrick about the movers are not here. I was told by Derrick Jr is in the hospital. After texting Jason, he said I cannot talk right number is Derricks phone number. I told don’t come out here to load my stuff now I am at a church convention with my wife. I text Derrick right after Jason. Derrick text back telling me his phone was not working and just picked up. I lend up texting Derrick back around 15 minutes give or take. Derrick text me back saying he is work on getting some one from GA. 35 after responding to Jason’s text I sent Derrick a text back to see how long it will take for this driver to get here. Derick text me back stating he is at a special event with is wife and can’t talk. (More information on my cell phone with all the texting I had with Jason, and Derrick.) Not sure when he will get to me a day, or so. I said to derrick this is a joke from you and your company. I didn’t believe Derrick because what has happened so far with this company. I called JR up on Sunday evening He answered the phone told me he hurt his leg. He will be there on Monday June 4th between 3pm 4pm. I said ok. Later in the day Jason called me to let me know that Jr will be there on Monday June 4th. JR showed up at 7 pm. I showed him what was going, and I have marked the boxes that where fragile. I went down stairs to see how much room they have left to put my items in the truck. Jr showed me how they mark the cubic feet one row of rivets to the next set of rivets was 175 cubic sqft. I question the way Jr told how they measured the cubic feet. I couldn’t say too much. Not sure if was telling me the truth, or what (I am not familiar with cubic feet) The men lend up finishing around 11:15 pm. Jr was wright the bill up he said he was giving me a few discounts. If I am write Jr wrote $7,000.00 when finish Jr told me I have a balance $3,300.00 on top of what I have paid already. I told Jr I only have $2,100.00 in cash. Jr said that will have to pay the rest when my items are delivered to Rockford. Jr said to my wife and I that he will be Rockford on Monday June 11th. I said ok. See you Monday June 11th. We arrived at our new apartment on Wednesday June 6th I lend up calling Jason on Monday to see if belongings are going to be here. Derrick answered the phone I asked when will my items be here. Derrick told me they have up to 14 days to receive my items. I told Derrick that Jr told me he will have everything by Monday. Derrick told that Jr was not driving anything to say or is not driving my items to me. I must wait. I said this not right all you have done is lied all the time from start to finish. I told Derrick that I am disable Veteran for the 3 times from the Derrick said to me it will be there Saturday June 16th, or Monday. June 18th. On Tuesday Jason called me and told that I will get $150.00 off my bill. they are ready to load my items on the truck. But I need to make a deposit into their account in the amount in the amount of $1,600.00 I said if I get this to the bank will my item be shipping out today. I a different person I asked if Jason was there. The gentleman told me Jason was not in the office. I told him I was trying to figure out how they came up with attentional $1,800.00. I ask about why the increase in the price. He said you need to read my contract. I asked the papers that were emailed to me that has the break down of the charges with other information. He said yes.
The gentleman asks me hold on. He came back to tell me a different amount of $1,900.00. I asked for his name he never stated his name to me. I ask him how the quote can go up from $1,800.00 to $1,900.00 in the last hour half. He did not answer Then he told me I would have to wait for the driver to get the total amount.
I was little upset over this. This was May 21st when this all happen. On May 28 I have called Jason to go ahead to despite the money in the amount of $230.00. Day later I called Jason to make sure that they have the money for the deposit he said yes and will call me on Friday June 1, 2018 to go over everything. June 1st I was waiting for Jason to call me back. It was getting late around 4:35 I called Jason to find out everything is set to go for June 2nd and the time. and that the date. Jason said the movers are going to be there on Sunday June 3rd I said to Jason I was set up to be moved on June 2nd Jason said look at your contract I said yes, I am looking at my contact it says Saturday June 2, /June 2.
I called back Saturday morning lend up speaking to the same gentleman I asked to speak to the manager. He said he is the manager who he could help me. I had explained to him what Jason said to me, Plus I asked for his name he told Derrick. I explained to him what was going on. Derrick said that will get in touch with drive and make sure he calls me. and they will be there today. Later in the evening it was around 6pm Derrick called me back and told me the Driver JR had injured doing a job is at the hospital. Derrick gave me JRS phone number to call JR. I called Jr to see if he is ok. Jr answered the phone I explain to Jr that Derrick stated to me that you were in the hospital. JR said that is wrong and the manager was lying that his truck broke down. Derrick was lying to me. JR said the truck broke down. He will be at my place on Sunday June 3rd between 3pm and 4pm later in the day. I received a call from Derrick to let me know that Jr is in the hospital with heat exhaustion I told Derrick I don’t believe you about this. Because you have lied to me already. Derrick said to my wife they are working on getting a driver from GA to move me to ILL. I will be contacted. Sunday June 3rd, I received a call from a man said to me the driver didn’t have my phone number. I gave my phone number to the gentleman. (I did not understand this person worked for the company he should have access to my information.) A few minutes later I received a call from a man telling me he can get my belongings today, or Monday. That I would have to give him cash in the amount of $6,000.00I told hm I was quoted a rate not $2,478.51. He said I need to call his boss I asked for his phone number. The gentleman gave me the phone number of 1-754-214-3069 this have spoken with Derrick about this whole thing how bad the service was. What they put my wife and I through. Sleeping on the floor having to spending money to eat out every day. This is wrong for any person. Jason called me on Tuesday June 12th told me I had to make a deposit in the amount of $1,550.80. Jason gave me their banking information to deposit the money into. (the company name that was given to me was moving from and relocation inc.) I lend up putting the amount of $1,657.80 which leaves a balance of $1,400.00 that I would own them. I called Jason back and gave him the information off the bank receipt, so they can look up the deposit. Jason said they will look for it and my belongings will be shipped out. I will receive everything by Monday, or Tuesday. I asked Jason where my furniture was all this time. Jason said in a warehouse. I was never told that my belongings were going into storage. No one told me this was the first time I found out that this happen. Sunday evening, we received a call from the truck driver that was delivering our stuff on Monday. He will call us when they get closer. When Caesar the driver got to our apartment he asked me to come and look at something. I walk to the truck he pointed to the top I ask what is that he said at the ware house the people loading the truck put the desk on top then it fell broke in peace’s I was talking to the driver he said this a company is not good. Caesar stated to me I would have to pay him first before they unload the truck. I ask why because I sure have a right to make sure everything is ok. Caesar told this is from the company no cash in my hand we don’t unload the truck. I gave Cease the cash of $1,400.00. Ask him to sign a receipt which he did. They were there days early waiting for them to load the truck up get on the road. Caesar the driver told me has called Jason to get the paper work was told he is working on it. Never respond to him would show up, and Jason would show up. Then tell Caesar he will be there and that was Tuesday that is when they started to load the truck. Mr. Gross we are processing the claim and we are sorry that you had issues with your move however we did disclose to you at pick up that the pressed wood furniture was not likely to make the trip intact cause it was very worn and poorly constructed and that the boxes that the client packed were overweight and heavy and should be repacked to avoid crushing however you declined that as well. As far as the other issues you had while we do strive to keep all clients happy it is sometime impossible to do so but we will work with Mr. Gross to resolve his claim as quickly as and as best we can.

Long-distance move from Florida to Connecticut

Poor delivery experience, dirty items, poor packing, finger pointing.

I paid over $3k for my move plus tip from Miami to New Haven CT.  The packing team arrived on time and appeared to do a good job with 4 movers in uniform.  I was happy, they were happy.  Its all down hill from here. Delivery was performed by a different company.  I was promised that Trans-united operated all of their own trucks and would make point to point delivery.  THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. The delivery driver called 24 hours before delivery, great.  Delivery at Noon on Monday.  I called the driver at noon, no anwser.  At 2pm he tells a long sad excuse and says he will be there at 7pm.  The new promised delivery comes and goes, at 9pm he tells me he will be at my apartment at 11pm.  Well this was missed as well and a new promise time for 7am Tuesday.  7am comes and goes, no anwser on the drivers phone.  Ive now missed a day of work and need to take off tomorrow.  9:30am Tuesday the delivery arrives.   The delivery team is 2 movers.  This is at least a 3 person job.  The driver hires a [EDIT] off the street to help them move my stuff.  This guy smells, is beyond unprofessional, and I am in shock that this is happening!  The mattress is not wrapped and has large dirty marks on it, a glass table that was professionally packed is poking through the boxing with a cracked corner, a lamp is bent, a shelf has a hole in the side of it, some boxes are damaged.  The delivery team tells me the packing team from "the other company" did a real bad job.  Fingers are pointing at each other and I am upset. I call trans-united and they tell me they are sorry and send a form to request insurance reimbursement.  I left messages for a supervisor to call me back.  Its been over a week and I have not heard from anyone.  I will submit my claim for insurance from the company but I am not happy.  This was not a full service professional move.  I would not recommed this company.

Long-distance move from Ohio to California

Unpleasant Experience.

Moving is not an easy process and can be quite stressful. So when I went to do my research on what movers to go with for my cross country move I was excited to stumble upon Trans-United. Based on all the reviews I read, they seemed like a great choice.  They came in at a good rate, the sales person seemed nice and knowledgeable.  All started off well. I could not have been more wrong.  I was moving from Cleveland,OH to Oakland, CA and my move was a bit unconventional.  I initially was to have my keys to my apt on August 25th so I scheduled my pick-up date for August 18th.  There was a mixup with the apartment and that changed to September 10th.  I immediately called the movers and tried to get them to come a little later.  It took me about 2 attempts to get a hold of someone by phone after sending 2 emails to my sales rep.  The lady was nice and said she would see what she could do.  I explained to her the situation. Unfortunately I never heard back and they still showed up on August 18th.  When they showed up the movers were very nice.  He reviewed the contract with me and then brought up the extra charges. Apparently they charge you for every foot over 50 feet from truck to door.  This was not pointed out to me by my sale srep so came a bit as a surprise. I ended up having to pay an additional $215 on top of my quote.  I also ended up paying an additional $900 for additional boxes I had. I would definitely recommend having the movers actually come to your place to look at your stuff to get a more accurate cost estimate instead of an inaccurate quote and suprise charges the day of.  After all was said and done, I asked the movers if I should expect any more charges besides the balance that was due. He said no, this will be it. Great! Fast forward to Sept 9th.  I called the movers letting them know I'm getting my keys and I'm ready to get my stuff as quickly as possible.  They tell me that they will do the best that they can, but they have 21 days from Sept 10th to get me my belongings.  At this point they have had my stuff for 3 weeks.  Grant it I knew that the earliest I could recieve my stuff was Sept 10th, but I had hoped that knowing my situation and having my stuff for as long as they did, they would have planned it out to get it to me as close to my date as possible.  Several times I called and no one could give me a straight answer as to when my stuff would be arriving.  I had travel coming up for work and was concerned about the timing.  Every time I called it was, well we don't know, call us back in 2 days. I had to always call them for everything they never offered to call me.  I finally get a call on Sept 15th and they tell me that my stuff has left Chicago and will arriving to me in 2-6 days! Great news, I was very happy.  A week goes by, I hear nothing.  I call to get an update.  After once again several attempts to get a hold of someone I finally talk to a lady in dispatch and she tells me that there was a delay in my delivery.  Again, no one called me to tell me this, I had to call them.  She says now they don't know when they are coming.  This was on Wednesday Sept 24th.  I was leaving on a biz trip the following Monday. I started to worry that I was not going to be present to receive my stuff.  The girl tells me to call back the following day and she would have a more accurate day of delivery.  I called back the next day and got no answer after several attempts of trying to get a hold of someone.  Finally, the movers call me at around 9 pm that evening and tell me that they would be getting to my place either Friday night or Saturday morning.  (They were supposed to give me a 48 hour heads up).  Regardless, I was happy to hear from them! The mover was very good at keeping in touch with me.  The next day he called me by 2 pm PT to tell me that he would be coming Saturday morning between 7 am-9am.  I live in an apt, so there was one loading dock for us to use for my building.  I went down early to make sure it was available.  All was good.  I call the mover at around 8:30 am to find out if we were still on track.  He responded, yes, I'll be there by 9 am.  At around 9:02 am, the mover calls me to tell me that he put in the wrong address and would be another 20 minutes.  By this time, someone else was now using the loading dock. When he finally arrived, he tells me that I have to pay for the additional footage.  At this point, I'm frustrated with the whole experience, but then to add on additional money after the previous movers told me that additional charges were done was not sitting well with me.  I gave these guys their money and just wanted them to be done and leave.  After all that, the condition of my belongings was very poor.  My TV was shattered (I had used a TV kit to pack the TV and the first movers were actually the ones to pack it for me), my TV stand legs were broken and there was a hole in the side.  Boxes were dented in and dirty.  My mattress was dirty even after using a mattress cover. Boxes that were marked fragile were clearly not handled with care.  Numerous plastic containers were broken. My lamp was broken.  Just all in all a very negative experience.  After all that, to get a hold of someone to talk to about the move and file claims was extremely difficult. Twice I was put on hold then disconnected and when I tried to call back I didn't get any one.  My sales person was MIA after he made the sale and never followed up with me when I expressed concerns.  I learned a lot from this move and will definitely know what to look for in the future.  I've attached photos of the condition of my items.  Good luck and hope this review helps! .

Long-distance move from Texas to Washington

What $40 on Fiverr will buy you, a 5 star rating for Trans-United.

Moving In the US: Legalized Grand Theft at $0.30 a Pound. People sometimes ask me, where do you come up with the villains in your stories? The unfortunate answer is all around us. Sometimes villains are individuals. Other times villains are entire industries. My most recent "real life" villain encounter was with the moving industry as I moved my family from Austin, Texas to the rain-shadow on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. The entire industry is rotten: top to bottom, nuts to bolts with no exceptions as far as I can see. The corruption was kicked off by deregulation. Now, thirty years later, the corruption has taken on a life of its own as theft and moral ambiguity are accepted industry-wide. It is a headless conspiracy, one without a leader. Like terrorism, the conspiracy is driven by a belief system. Like a predator, the industry sees you as a "thing", a resource, and something to exploit. My recommendation, unless you are opening an Ebay store and plan to be the movers, there is no upside. Hire local movers at each end, get a C license, and drive the truck yourself. I am not joking here. This is a toxic personality that should be avoided at all costs. When I asked the Department of Transportation (DOT) Investigator - "What if the movers showed up with only a bed post?" His response - "Well, you are insured for $0.60 a pound" This is actually too optimistic. The reality is $0.30 a pound is expected after arbitration. He added, "You don't have to pay for the items they didn't move." What he forgot to mention was you are obligated to pay upfront by law before they unload AND you'll have to take them to court to get any money back. Some courts require you to sue the movers in their county, which in our case is a trip from Seattle area to Miami or about 3,000 miles. And this assumes you track down the company's process agent, which of course they are not obligated to reveal. As I said, I am not joking. Why would the DOT investigator not see how this was anything but legalized grand theft? That is because he lives and breathes in an industry that would eat its young if it could. So by comparison, legalized Grand Theft at $0.30 a pound is nothing. Further, the only risk to the movers is they will have to pay for some of what they stole (at $0.60 a pound) if taken to court with no jail time possibly attached. This is why the Mafia worked in this industry for years and why deregulation was a bad idea. Like personalities, some industries are predisposed to not behaving. The Milgram experiment years ago showed that ordinary people will do the most horrendous things if sanctioned by a governing body. This is seen in the Moving industry top to bottom, nuts to bolts. 1. Movers (Trans-United out of Florida)- They arrived 4 weeks late with an ETA always 2 days from when we called them. They charged 12K instead of 5K despite a binding contract. They destroyed or lost 1/3 of our stuff. They threatened to destroy our stuff if we kept talking to the Department of Transportation (DOT) investigators. Later, when they did destroy our stuff in retaliation, the DOT indicated they were powerless to do anything after the fact, much less prevent it. Further, the insurance company cited the intentional destruction of our stuff as reason for not covering our claim (which begs to question what the insurance was for other than charity.) But my favorite part was paying for moving charges for items the movers lost or destroyed. 2. Department of Transportation (DOT) - In a word - useless. They are impossible to get a hold of. They do not answer the phone or even respond to emails. They do warn they will not respond on their site, but that is little comfort. Working around the system, I got two DOT investigators to look closely at Trans-United out of Florida. When the owner threatened and then destroyed a lot of our stuff, the DOT investigator said, "wow, I guess they called us on that. There is NOTHING we can do." Never mind they collect licensing fees from the movers. The investigators (as well as twelve other departments) act like victims and point the finger at deregulation and President Regan. Yes, thirty years or so after the fact President Regan is still responsible for the DOT not owning their own: behaviors, actions, and thoughts. Though I do agree the problem started with deregulation, at what point does the DOT chose to wipe its own nose and try, at least try, to change its lot in life? Whining about reality isn't attractive in adults who act like children or regulating Government agencies that don't regulate but collect taxes and complain about being underfunded when they do absolutely nothing at all in core areas. 3. BBB - With no vetting at all, the BBB gives any un-certified business an A- from day one. That is a problem in itself. However, if the business stays at the same location BUT sets up a new mailing address, well the BBB gives then a new A- listing and effectively resets their grade. (For fun Google "Florida BBB Trans-United" - there are quite a few aren't there?) Also, if the owner responds with anything five times, even a cut-and-paste of the last response, the complaint is dropped by BBB. Escalating to the BBB's Washington HQ office does nothing. Though this office at least acknowledges that bad folks work around the system all the time, they say, "rules are rules" and heaven forbid they "own" their rules, much less fix them. Yet another regulating body that doesn't wipe its own nose. My guess is they blame Regan too as well as their parents for having a career at the BBB. 4. INSURANCE You can get outside insurance. However, unlike the better regulated auto industry, the moving insurance company can chose after the fact not to pay. In our case over half the items, including the mattress with the grease hand-prints, were initially not covered. In the end they covered everything except the mattress. The company cited the materials of a few items, how things were packed, etc; though many of these items were a total loss. This begs the question - what exactly was the coverage for on those items? I'm guess the mattress coverage was charity as it was a total loss, the coverage money collected, but there was no pay out. Further, they took the maximum time, two months, to process the claim, which prevented filing the lower $0.60 a pound coverage for those items. When I complained about all this to the agent, she was irritated. I guess this is how this industry works - the goal isn't to do what is right, but to pay as little as possible. During this same time someone backed into our son's car and the other person's insurance was Geico. Though a low price leader in the car insurance industry, Geico from the start did the right thing and in the end covered the damage. [NOTE: The insurance carrier name was removed as part of the "settlement." It should be noted the mattress was never paid for and was a total loss.] 5. COURTS - This was the last ray of hope, but really they just wanted a piece of the action. The problem is when this industry got deregulated basically all the consumer protections were gutted while the industry protections remained in place. The mover is liable for the entire $0.60 a pound, unless the insurance company comes back late (as they did in our case) and protest period has expired. Then you get nothing. We got nothing. If we had somehow got something, the movers would ask to go to arbitration where you have a good chance of getting half - $0.30 a pound. But most often you get nothing if you didn't follow the specific instructions set by the movers. In our case the instructions were: buy a traditional camera, develop photos, and fill out in pen the forms. If you used a digital camera or word process, your claim was void. Of course this procedure would eat up the $0.30 a pound in administration costs. On the 12K verses 5K difference between the initial "binding" estimate and what the movers actually charged once the truck was loaded, well you'll need to find their process agent to file a claim. Then in many small claims courts you need to show up in person, which in our case was over 3,000 miles away. 6. MOVER RATING SITES - So the first three hits via Google included moving sites that had 300 or so good reviews. Obviously they are paying via Fiverr.com or otherwise to bump up their ratings. These are some of the most used sites for this sort of thing. Luckily Trans-United has moved down but when I looked there were 5 sites with 4.5-5 stars with 200 reviews. The dates went back to 2010. I could go on and on as this was only the tip of the iceberg (yeah it was that bad) All this said, everyone involved, except the movers, acknowledges the problem, well, except their part in it - the part they can do something about. For all involved, like in the Milgram study, they blame "the system" and the actual victim. As our adjuster put it - "we should have known better." That is right, we should have expected that everyone in this industry, themselves included, was scum and would try to screw us over. Point taken. Now I know. The one silver lining is I do get great evil characters for my stories. And sometimes those characters are entire industries.

Long-distance move from Arizona to Florida

Stolen/missing items, broken items.

HORRIBLE! They stole our silver! We didn't get about 1/3 of our boxes. It was delivered 3 weeks late..we had broken plates, torn boxes. It was TERRIBLE SERVICE. They also quoted us at 300 cubic feet, then charged us for 500 cubic feet, then upon delivery the manifest said 300 cubic feet! I spoke with the company, was put on hold for an hour each time I called. I went through BBB, they refused to remedy the situation and just let it ding their BBB score.

Service cost: $2000

Official company response

We ask that this supposed client reach out to us to resolve any issues they may have but we have no record of this move and the person does not state their name. We believe this review to be false and either a competitor or a disgruntled prior employee slandering our name.

Long-distance move from Florida to Connecticut

Terrible experience.

One word, Terrible!! Salesman underestimates the volume by half.. The pick up was delayed by 6 hrs..they wont pick you up until you sign a paper work which says the volume is double than estimated!! They won't  measure, but you will need to go by their numbers. Delivery was from a different movers. they said the truck to stairs distance is more than 70 feet and need to a $100 more! When I asked to measure, the start from the farthest door even though they have one in the back! after 10 days of the last delivery, I am still waiting for my sofa! So your stuff may come in installments.  .
