Conscientious and Careful

I hired Jason and his team of conscientious and hard-working guys at Need a Hand Movers twice in the past 6 weeks. I was very impressed with their work ethic and the care they took moving our things to our new home. On both occasions there were different guys and, to a person, they were careful and communicative. I highly recommend this honest, friendly, and reasonably priced company.

Do Not Use!

Should be negative stars! Never Use this Company- I made the mistake of hiring these guys to pack and load my shipping truck from across country move. When I opened my container I was shocked and appalled, as were the people I had hired to unload and the horrible mess in front of our eyes.

Box tumbled down, broken and scratched items everywhere- it was horrifying.

The guys who loaded my belonging did not secure my belongings in any way that was even beginning to be reasonable providing only one tie down at below hip level. At least five times throughout the day I asked if there was any other supplies that were needed or anything else that had to be purchased in order to make sure my things got there in a safe manner. I was continually told no. Blankets I provided were not used to protect pieces of my furniture leading to their scratching. When I contacted the owner Jason with my photos and story he told me his guys didn't have the stuff they needed- ignoring the constant asks I made if they did and what I should go get if they were short. Plus they left plenty of blankets in my apartment saying they were fine and then he had the gall to tell me it was my fault for not providing enough blankets..

Additionally heavy boxes with dishes and other breakable items were placed on top and left go flying throughout the leftover space resulting in broken dishes, glasses and serve wear and boxes that popped open ruining photographs and CDs and DVDs that can no longer be replaced. They loaded so many heavy boxes onto of my wood and steel entertainment unit it sheared the steel wheels off of it. Bending one completely intern ad the other broken off.

Prior to them loading I had explained that they could use as much space as needed if it was required to go beyond the 13 ft to protect my things and get them there in good condition, that I had no problem with it. They assured me that that wasn't necessary, clearly it was.

Everything in the truck was secured behind two wooden partitions that were locked and had no way of being opened by the shipping company. Any damage that was done was done because it was loaded improperly and not secured or not taken care of when it was loaded. In order for the kind of damage that was done to my things to have been the fault of the shipping company the truck would have had to flip upside down.

I understand that moving results usually in one or two small broken items, a few glass items here or there, or heck even a lamp or a mirror I could have understood. But the fact that my things were tumbled down in a pile, that it resulted in major damage to large pieces of my furniture not even including the fact that they placed a plant on my leather couch, that I've been lucky to try andsalvage that leather, their loading was unprofessional and negligent.

I was very patient first waiting for Jason the owner to get back for a week when I was told by his mother he was not available since he was at a conference. I was told he would call me the following Monday. I waited until today, Wednesday, and after redefining no call I reached out again, even though he didn't bother to get back to me knowing that I had called and spoken with others and what the situation was. Upon speaking to Jason finally he told me that it was not his fault or his loaders and must be the shipping company. He refused to take any responsibility and said his guys did a good job and that I was lying and had not given them the right materials. Again ignoring the fact that over the course of hours I continually asked the "experts" what was needed and they kept saying nothing. This is going to cost me thousands of dollars and I said I wanted a full refund given the horrible service I received being generous considering that won't begin to cover the costs of replacing everything that was damaged.

The only reason I have withheld making it public until now was because I wanted to give the company a chance to do the right thing and I didn't want to damage future business if this just happened to be one off mistake. Jason's reluctance to take responsibility on our phone call and subsequent emails has made it clear that he has no intent of doing the right the thing or owning up to any mistakes by his people.

If you don't care about your things and want a terrible experience then by all means hire these people. But if you want to reassured that your things will get there safely and that the "experts" will do a quality job use someone else. I am also posting pictures of the destruction for everyone to see how horrible it was.

Always great service.

Need a Hand Movers is the best company.  They are flexible and able to to multiple tasks.  Our nonprofit has utlized the Need a Hand Movers service many times at the open space preserve for American Badgers - in the building envelope area, to help with moving and removing items - as we implement a public open space project.  They are sensitive to the wildlife in the area while performing all the heavy duty tasks we have needed.  I heard Jason, the lead mover, is nicknamed the Honey Badger - because of his tenacity and ability to address work effectively - so that's a good match for us.  I recommend this company with wholehearted support!

Moving and Hauling - the Best.

Exceptionally professional and really good people with integrity and a very strong work ethic.  Highly recommended!!  They are also flexible to the needs of individuals and work together with you to come up with a plan for moving and/or hauling and the best price for the work.  They are based in Santa Rosa and I have utilized their services both in Santa Rosa and Petaluma.  They are always on time and work efficiently and competently.

Best Movers In Town!

Jason and his crew moved our things across town for us two weeks ago. It was all done so quickly that I could barely believe it. I didn't even have to unpack my heavy dresser drawers! I've never used a moving company before and this added perk will have me callng me again in the future if we ever need to move again. His prices are very competative, and the quality of care and customer service is outstanding. He got our bed, dressers, and large flat screen TV up a narrow flight of stairs, and around a sharp corner to our room without a scratch on anything! Not even a tiny scuff on a wall. AMAZED! I hate moving, but everyone at Need A Hand made the transition so much easier. Thank you!

Bait-and-Switch Estimating by Owner. AVOID!!

This review is about the owner, not our movers. We had several discussions with the owner about the type of move we were doing: a four bedroom house with full 2-car garage and outdoor furniture. We told him about the stairs on both ends and even told him to google street view the house we were moving into because the driveway was narrow. He recommended 2 movers for 7 hours. This seemed light to me so I asked him if he wanted to come do a site visit and he told us that they move houses like this all the time and didn't need to come out. Feeling nervous I had him book a third mover anyway. He quoted $1,360 for the job. The minute the guys arrived they said their boss didn't quote the job accurately "again" - as if this were a common occurrence. I asked if they needed to call the owner to arrange for extra help and they said he wouldn't provide it even if they did call. They also said that all of the extras the owner charges (like for moving a piano $125, $100 per staircase and extra for heavy items) goes to the owner not the guys actually doing the heavy lifting! That's crazy! My husband ended up being the fourth guy on the job and it still went late into the night. The final bill was $3,255!! Over double the original estimate! I'll say again, this review is about the bait-and-switch, fraudulent business practices of the owner and not about the moving crew. The crew could not have been more lovely. We bought them lunch and gave each of them $100 tip. They worked very very hard and were as annoyed about the situation as I was. The owner screwed them as much as he did us by making them work so hard and so late into the night. When I called the owner to complain about the inadequate staffing and ridiculous final bill all he could say was "it costs what is costs" and wouldn't accept any responsibility. Had he sent 5 guys (which I would have happily paid for) it could have been done during regular time and not over time and would have cost much much less. Had he done the site visit as we asked this could have been avoided. Instead I had to pay for 8 hours of regular time, 4 hours of 1.5 time and 2 hours of double time. Shame on him.
