Founded in 1992, the Carolinas Aviation Museum is located at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport and houses over 50 non-flying aircraft and a collection of invaluable items that are part of the aviation history in the North and South Carolina. Also, the museum possesses a number of flying historic airplanes, including Piedmont Airlines DC-3 and two OV-1D Mohawks.

The Aviation Museum houses a specialized library as well, with rich collections of books, magazines, technical manuals, flight manuals, photographs, scale models, and much more.

One of the museum’s exhibits is Airbus A320-214 (US Airways Flight 1549) which on January 15, 2009 made a miraculous water landing in the Hudson River after a flock of migrating geese had caused both engines to fail. All of the 150 passengers and 5 crew members were safe thanks to the massive experience and admiring resourcefulness under pressure of Captain Chesley Sullenberger.

Discovery Place

Discovery Place is a science and technology museum that features interactive nature exhibits and live animal displays (a large variety of native North Carolina animals). First opened in 1981, Discovery place underwent a recent complete renovation to turn it into a state-of-the-art museum for visitors of all ages.

Freedom Park

This is a 98-acre park centered on a big lake. Scattered throughout the park are paved trails, tennis and volleyball courts and playgrounds. Also, the park pavilion is home to numerous free movie and musical performances during the summer period.

In September, Freedom Park becomes the venue for the famous Festival in the Park which attracts around 100,000 visitors in 5 days.
