Every set of stairs costs money, if your walkway is longer than a certain distance to the street, distance and time from the company shop to your doorstep, and if you’re female and older there is a good chance you’ll get charged more because they often take advantage. I have also had thousands of dollars of items stolen over the years with moves, (4 wardrobe boxes replaced with other peoples clothes – and because I paid cash-they refused to honour a claim) That was 2 men and a truck 20 years ago. My son worked as a mover with a ‘top of the line’ company for 8 months. And guess what – he had been there longer than anyone. He said stealing was rampant. If you can recommend a moving company to me that I can trust, please let me know-because I am moving to New Brunswick next spring-and because of the amount I have been charged in the past-and the quotes I’m getting (which I do not believe) I’ve decided to sell all my stuff and just bring my clothes etc. – still about 30 boxes. I don’t trust the workers-that’s the bottom line. I doubt that most companies even do background checks, let alone reference checks. Seriously worried about the cost of my next move.
