Worth the Money.

We called a few moving companies and chose Handy dandy based on their A rating with the BBB and their reasonable prices they quoted us. They aren't the cheapest but they are well below the expensive companies that charge hourly rates. They had a pretty simple booking process and were very thorough in explaining the services and our options. The movers showed up within the agreed timeframe and got our move finished quickly as contracted. We would definitely use them again. The team leader GREG and Billy were the best, thanks again guys.

So slow and no respect for belongings.

2000 sq ft move 7 miles away. Hired 3 for 6 hours. Ended up taking 25.5 man hours and the move cost almost 800 as a result.  I did the same exact sort of move (same furniture) a year ago and it cost me 200 less and I had no furniture damage.
They were just painfully slow and took smoke breaks all of the time. They were obviously milking the clock and had been there and done that before.
Several pieces of furniture were damaged and I'm filing a claim. We'll see how that goes and I'll follow up with a review on that. Cecile or Cecilia was great taking the original order, but was less than great when it came time to charge me for them taking about 8 man hours too long with the move.
One of the guys good pretty good, so I need to be fair there. Bottom line, the exact same move cost me $200 less a year ago from a company where the guys worked at a reasonable pace.

Official company response

Handy Dandy Moving values all of our customers including Mr. "Jim". In response to Mr. Jim's complaint..

He booked an order through our company and was also provided, as all of our customers are, with our Standard Agreement Form which outlines the base cost of the move and how much it will be for each additional hour over the base. I.e. $195/2hrs $55 each additional hour, 2 movers. In Jim's case, he chose 6 hours for his move in which he agreed to before booking the move was a higher base fee for 6 hours and a higher additional hourly fee since he booked 3 movers. Jim's primary issue is with time. Please keep in mind that Jim was moving from a 4-BR Condo which typically takes between 6-10hrs to load & unload with 3 movers. Jim's parking lot was not spacious enough to fit a 26' Moving truck and Jim did not make Handy Dandy aware of this before the move. Therefore, the moving truck had to be parked across the street and the movers had to long-carry his items from across the street into his home, which is not standard. Jim understood this at the beginning of the move when the movers explained to him. Jim was fully aware of what services he would be getting, the length of the services, and the terms of agreement as it is provided to all Handy Dandy Moving customers at the time of booking.

1) Jim did not contact Handy Dandy Moving throughout the entire 8 1/2 hours of moving to express any concerns with time.
2) After his move was completed, when asked directly how his move went before explaining his final amount owed he stated quote "IT WENT GREAT".
3) This customer also tipped the movers at the end of the job for their job well done
4)At the time of payment processing, out of courtesy, our representatives always breaks down the final amount the customer owes so as not to blind side the customer. It is clearly stated in Jim's agreement contract $95 each additional hour and when Handy Dandy Moving provided him with the final balance, Jim quickly countered his original statement by now stating that the movers went too slow by "rearranging the items on the truck" and attempted to demand that the company wipe off 30 minutes. He also attempted to demand the company apply his military discount to the additional hourly fee when it was clearly explained; even in his agreement form that his discount only applied to his base amount when booking the job.
5) As many customers understand, when items are not wrapped and packed (which Jim's items were not and customers who care about the condition of their items typically have them wrapped/packed during moving services), a professional mover is going to take all necessary measures to prevent damage to items which is why it took a little extra time to arrange Jim's items when loading. Jim also declined Wrapping/Packing services.
6) Out of courtesy, our company did offer him $25 off his final balance because we did nothing wrong; however, we do not wish for any customer to leave disgruntled. Mr. Jim ultimately accepted this and therefore received $25 off. Now after Tipping the movers, stating how Great his move went, and getting $25 off what was generously offered to him, he has done a 180 degree turn because he feels upset about having to pay for the additional hours that he had no complaints about throughout the entire move when the movers were working diligently and which he commended them on. His primary issue is the additional hourly fee he was charged that he was well aware he would be charged when booking the move. He is also basing his move on movers 1 year ago not taking into consideration that items accumulate over time, the professionalism of our movers will not allow us to toss customer's items recklessly around, as well as the fact that our rates were not hidden and he was fully aware before booking

Again, we value our customers, and always do our best to be fair and we hope that you will look into our other reviews and not let customers like the above discourage you from choosing a great company with high standards, nationwide partnerships, and repeat clients from customers who trust us to continue implementing the same great service as we have time and time again.

Efficient & Professional.

The three guys were hired to load/unload a 3 bedroom house. They were professional, efficient, and very hard working. They worked straight thru at each location without a break! They were careful with my belongings which I appreciated. I really believe I certainly got my money's worth & more from this company. Oh and the move was set up less than 48 hours in advance!! No problem for them. Thank you Handy Dandy!! I'll be recommending you to my friends!!

Do not use these people.

It has been our experience with Handy Dandy Movers 1. The request was made for start time between 9 and 10 am they arrived at 4:30 PM 2. The trucks they used they picked up in Mobile AL and had to drive them to Pelham AL the individuals 3 each we had three twenty six foot trucks so 3 drivers 3. They had one dolly between the 3 trucks 4. The lack of experience was obvious after they ran over a new VW car in the parking lot and that alone took 2.5 hours away from the unloading for all three drivers.  The Police came and took statements and pictures just ask Long Beach MS PD 5. The copy of the inventory was doctored by one of them to show that they had packaged one hundered boxes and shrinkwraped them. 6. The guy named Glenn though he was in charge of them and made several trips to Home Depot leaving the others to work and they tried but had no clue one had just hired on and the other was a student working part-time.  Glenn styed on the phone constanly calling his boss or wom ever must have waisted a minimum of two hours. 7. The very first thing Glenn wanted me to sign a paper saying that everything we had was damaged during prior moves.  I said NO so them he had to check it out for himself and that was the list he or someone added the 100 boxes over my signiture at the end of the list. 8. When it was all said and done time was running out and my wife had a doctors appointment so we went to a storage facility and knowing the storage unit I had rented may not hold everything and having another pertly full I went and got the keys just to come back and find that they had unloaded the truck and pilled everything next to the wall and them they just left without even letting me know. 9.  I have pictures of several book cases and broken curios cabinets that had been improperly wrapped with blankets, and had rubbed and chaffed. 10.  This is no proffesional outfit, I had to call and get help to move the remainder stacked in the drive-through of Fayard Storage in Gulfport and put it into the storage building.  .

Official company response

Our management spoke with Mrs. Shelby Karpinski & Eustache "Tony" Karpinski throughout the course of this move. Handy Dandy Moving provided services to this customer as indicated in the contract terms. 70% of our customer base are comprised of repeats and business partnerships because they value our binding contract and our system. As with all valued customers, we offer insurance protection. It was clearly indicated in the contract terms and both in a recorded message the specific items in which the customer paid to have covered under company's insurance. The items in which customer claimed damages were left bare by the customer as customer did not want those items protected. This move also took an extra day because the customer had more items at the site than what they indicated to our representative at the time of the quote. This customer also performed a fraudulent chargeback disputing a substantial amount of funds to which the customer owed the company under contract. Thankfully, our company was reimbursed due to concrete evidence provided from the customer signing off agreeing to the contracted charges as well as recorded statements from the customer that support the company's stance. Our company values all customer's and regret that the Karpinski's were not satisfied with their move. However, it has been proven that they were fully aware of the services they were being provided with but didn't want to pay the agreed upon funds at the end. We believe this was simply a case of buyers remorse.

Stress-Free Move.

A friend of ours, thank God referred us to Handy Dandy Moving after we were stood up by uhaul movinghelp.com day laborers.  What a difference.  Handy Dandy showed up friendly, on time, licensed, insured and got our items moved with no issues and did everything stated in their contract at a more than reasonable rate. This company was my life saver.  Whatever you do, DO NOT GO WITH UHAUL MOVINGHELP.COM THROUGH E-Move; no matter how cheap they are, you get what you pay for they are not movers but day laborers, no background check, criminals with proven felony backgrounds, and unprofessional.  .

Moving.

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST MOVERS I HAVE EVER USED.  Very unprofessional from the movers, supervisor, to the general manager.  If I could, I would give them ZERO STARS.  I paid for 8 hours of moving and told the guy who quoted the price that I would pay for more if needed.  When the movers first got there all they did was complain about how much stuff there was and spent the first 30 minutes on the phone talking to the supervisor.  Guess what, that 30 minutes was part of the 8 hours I paid for. I was only moving about three miles.  It took them over 4 hours to pack the first truck load.  I asked the movers if I needed to be there while they were packing and he said no.  I was moving smaller stuff in my truck.  While they were unpacking the first truckload I went back to the first house to grab move stuff in my truck.  When I got to the house every door in the house was wide open.  I called the supervisor to complain and he said it is not their responsibility to close doors.  COMMON SENSE is you walk through a door then you close it.  No one was at the house, so anyone could come in and taken anything.  The second truck load took 4 hours to load.  They got to the new house with the second load at the 8 hour mark.  I got a call from the general manager, who stated I needed to buy move time to get them to unload the truck.  COMMON SENSE.  I paid for 2 more hours.  The first 30 minutes the movers just sat in the truck and took a break listening to music.  Guess what, that 30 minutes was part of the 2 hours I paid for.  The second load had our exercise equipment and sofa.  The movers put both the exercise equipment and sofa upside down in the garage.  The exercise equipment where scratched on the LED monitors and handles.  I was missing a part to my bed.  I asked the movers to look in their truck to see if it may still be there.  It was not in the house, garage, or front yard. They said everything was out of their truck.  I signed the papers and they left.  I started to go out the front door to go back to the first house to look for the part to my bed.  Guess what was sitting on the front yard, the part to my bed.  They must of found it in they truck.  Instead of bring it to the front door, they just tossed it in the front yard and left. Will NEVER recommend this moving service to anyone in the future.

Official company response

Dr. Lawrence "Chip" Carpenter Jr. acted in an overly irate and belligerent manner utilizing profanity and unwarranted language throughout the service day. This extreme behavior prompted our mover to contact management and pursue further investigation into this particular customer. Our movers discovered from a Public Record Search in an article released by the U.S. Attorney's Office Southern District of Alabama that Dr. Lawrence "Chip" Kelly conspired with his co-owner Nurse Practitioner Diantha Miller in a scheme to falsify bills to insurance companies for criminal financial gain for their company Laser Skin Care Center in Mobile, AL. Consequently, Diantha Miller was convicted, sentenced to 12 months and one day in federal prison, and has been ordered to pay $347,868.26 in restitution to Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama.

Our mover quickly relayed this information to Handy Dandy Moving manager. This naturally raised a red flag and the company; already contracted with this particular customer before knowing this important piece of information, was legally bound to continue with the customer's move. However, our company could not disregard this customer's track record because it directly related to our company as it was concrete evidence of the mindset of this customer.

Two hours into Dr. Carpenter's move, he called complaining movers were moving slow. The customer then continued stating that his 3 guys were able to make "3" trips with their truck and our company movers were still working on loading first truck. Our company rep informed this customer that we were loading (2) 26' Moving trucks full to the rim and that the trucks him and his friends were loading were small "Pickup" style trucks therefore, it's going to take considerably more time for our movers to load. Our representative explained to Mr. Carpenter that movers were on perfect time because both 26' trucks were full to capacity and movers loaded and unloaded truck between 8-10 hrs which is the average industry standard time. Mr. Carpenter agreed and understood.

Dr. Lawrence "Chip" Carpenter also complained movers left doors opened in house and didn't close or lock doors behind them because he wasn't at the house. Our service representative reminded customer that it is not common practice for an outsider to handle something as personal as locking or closing doors of customer's residences, it's both a liability concern and it is common knowledge to every human being that no one locks up a person's household but the person's who reside at that household. Due to customer's constant complaining, our company gave Mr. Carpenter a free 2nd trip. Customer also declined the full service protection option in which our company offered at the time of quotes which is evidenced in both a recorded conversation and his signed paperwork. He left his items bare and unprotected on the day of the move.

We regret that this customer was not satisfied. However, this customer acted inappropriately throughout the move while our movers continued to conduct themselves professionally and got Dr. Carpenter's move done as contracted and on-time, even providing him with a free 2nd trip.

Bad move.

I hired Handy Dandy movers to move part of my household goods across town (10 mile trip) on April 13th 2012. The workers arrived 30 minutes late and I had to walk them thru the directions to the house even though the house is off a major street in the city. They still missed the turn as I had them on the phone. They 2 workers arrived in a rented U-Haul, they were 2 young guys inexperience in moving, handling furniture, and loading a truck.

The workers complained the whole move about how they did not like the job or the pay. They took 10 hours to do a 5 hour job and since they did not load the truck properly they did not get all the furniture that I had been contracted to move. I was left to move the furniture that should also have been moved the next day.

When my furniture arrived at the new house our antique china cabinet was damaged and the glass was broken. Handy Dandy denied my claim for repairs stating that I improperly protected the cabinet with insufficient bubble wrap even thought a much larger cabinet with more glass made it safely. Before the move, I had left two old digital cameras and a backup hard-drive in a dresser drawer. These items were missing the next morning when I remembered that I had left them there. I contacted Handy Dandy about receiving a refund for items that were not moved, but they would not return my calls. I reported them to BBB but as the did me with me they did not return their calls, report still available on BBB.
HANDY DANDY is professional and courteous on the phone, not so much on the job. By far my worst move ever. Customers Beware!

Mr. Ray,

On the contrary, we are delighted that you chose us to assist you with your move as we are with all of our customers. Our reputation shines through a plethora of online reviews; however, we do regret that you were unsatisfied with your experience. To sum it up, we provided you with the services in which you ordered that coincide with the terms of agreement between you and Handy Dandy Moving.

We carefully investigated your claim brought forth from your end, all statements brought forth from Handy Dandy’s mover‘s that were assigned to your site, credible source professional glass company, and all paperwork submitted.

There is no documentation on record showing that you submitted a claim for stolen items nor a police report, this can actually be deemed as fabricated (defamation of character to our company by attempting to devalue a reputable company) on your end through these reviews. It is a normal reaction for a person to contact law enforcement if they believe their items were stolen, for some reason, you never took this step. Secondly, it was proven that your China Cabinet was not wrapped properly before your move. You didn't order wrapping/packing services; yet you still wanted us to move your China Cabinet without it being properly wrapped. We provided you with the opportunity to do this for you; however, you declined this service. It is common to most customers that care about their items, especially fragile items, that if they don't want their items to get damaged, they will have their items properly wrapped and packed before the move. Otherwise, they will pay the moving company to do it for them. However, you did neither of the two. Wrapping a china cabinet with one layer of bubble wrap does not constitute as proper wrapping as it is obvious that would be considered a thin/scarce layer.

Also, the professional glass company that provided the inspection also couldn't determine exactly how your china cabinet was damaged.

As stated in the correspondence with the decision of your claim, we welcomed any new supporting evidence that could assist in benefiting you on your end. However to date, we haven't received anything of the sort from you.

Again, we sincerely appreciate your business. Our duty is to comply with the terms and conditions set forth in the Customer Agreement Form for the benefit of our customer and our company. Our intentions are to be fair, take accountability for our faults and pay what we owe.

Best wishes,

The Handy Dandy Moving Team

They suck and don't care.

I used them to move in items. They were ok. Loading a truck with my items. Several things mutilated such as my sofa. Packed a pointed corner table base right behind my sofa. Slicing a hole in it. Rammed other articles and cut a hole on the arm. Damaged a metal filing cabinet. Which should be easily stackable. Nothing secured although straps and packing blankets
And pillows provided. Will never ever use them again. Master movers are far more professional and better rates.

Service cost: $235

Official company response

Handy Dandy Moving Values all of our customers.

Please be advised that Ms. Jackie did not explain the full story in this remark. She has used us in the past; therefore, she liked us so well she used us a second time! This is also evidence that she knows what a professional moving service entails.

Ms. Jackie is upset that her leather sofa was allegedly damaged. When asked if she covered or used any materials to wrap her leather sofa, she stated (this was also recorded) "No I didn't think I had to because I've moved before and have never wrapped it or any of my items". All of Ms. Jackie's items were unwrapped and in no condition to be moved but she wanted them moved in an unprotected condition.

When asked if she wanted wrapping/packing services, she declined. Handy Dandy Moving loaded her items as she requested and she chose not to have them covered or protected as stated in her agreement. Also, Handy Dandy Moving only loaded her items. Ms. Jackie's items got damaged while she drove them to her unloading point or when her other movers she hired unloaded them as she discovered the damages AFTER the unloading.

We just believe our prospective customers should have the entire story before jumping to conclusions when complaints like Ms. Jackie's are discussed.

As always, we will continue to do our best with moving our valued customers.

Couldn't Have Asked For Better.

I don't understand how anyone could rate this company average.  I booked them on a same day because another company stood me up. These movers arrived on time, had a great appearance and were uniformed.  They were courteous and kept me informed when they were on their way to my house.  They showed up on time and actually had to wait on me to get there because I had to run a quick errand.  Although my move went overtime a bit, because I added a few more things that weren't in my original order, the movers kept smiles and I could tell they genuinely enjoy their job and are just overall good guys.  THey have a pretty smooth system as far as paperwork  and nothing was hidden like hidden fees(not too much paperwork but everything is clear and you know what you're getting).   I offered to buy them lunch because I felt that was the least I could do for their awesome customer service. Other "national moving companies" which will remain nameless have charged me double what these guys charged me and I still got great service.
They really do come in Handy!
